Not for Play
In this tiny world, each person is a reproduction of the last. They do not question the rules set before them, but simply exist. I focus my attention on the domestic obligations passed down through generations that often require a blind faith. Not all these belief systems are adverse, while others are fragments of past ideologies that have been stripped of their original meaning.
Subtlety is key in creating this alternate reality, the patterns, religious symbolism, and nostalgia become essential qualities within the work. Patterns are meant to distract; thus, by developing a coded visual language, I am able to toy with the tension of the viewer who is both at ease in these spaces meant to represent the home, but also expose their underlying discomfort. The alternate domestic spaces are merely a façade to the secrets lying within the room or even within the frame itself. These constructed small-scale installations participate in the nature of camouflage as they apply their own sense of nostalgia to the space and the lines of reality are blurred.
